So, what was your fondest bike as a kid?

Mine would probably be a Peugeot Tourmalet that I bought when I was about 11.  I promptly removed the road bars and installed flat bars, thinking I was pretty hot stuff.  In reality, I was ahead of the curve when it came to the flat-bar trend we still see a bit these days.  But, I learned more about the mechanics of a bicycle working on my Peugeot, and that's what started me down the path I still roll.

    Your memories?

My favorite childhood bike would be a my yellow Schwinn Stingray 3-speed. It had fenders and a stickshifter. Awesome bike! I won it in in a fire prevention contest when I was about 9 years old!

Later, I graduated to a blue Schwinn Fastback 5-speed. It was like a lightweight skinny tire version of the Stingray, simply an amazing bike.

In the picture above, the bike on the left is a Fastback and the bike in the center is a singlespeed Stingray.

If you had a Schwinn when you were young (or maybe you still have a classic Schwinn?) you can find some good information, links to catalogs, serial number ID, etc. at: http://suckcreek.com/other/2007/12/11/classic-schwinns-from-the-60s-70s/
